The Morris County Chapter was delighted to host its Biennial Gala, the HerStory Fundraising Ball at the Hilton Short Hills Hotel in celebration of International Women’s Day. This event invited the community to come together to raise money for worthy causes involving women and children and to hear the powerful stories of HerStory trailblazers.

We took the opportunity to honor several women in our community who are making a notable difference for families and for our youth. This year’s honorees include Tammy K. Jones, President and Co-Founder of Basis Investment Group;  Rose Stuckey Kirk, President of the Verizon Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Verizon and Monique L. Nelson, Owner; Chair & CEO of UniWorld Group.

This event raised funds to further the critical work of the following charities:
LEAD Program: An organization for children of color, focused on increasing diversity in the fields of business, computer science and engineering
Morristown Neighborhood House: A local non-profit supporting children and families. It is also seeking funding for its newly-minted College Preparatory Program.
Jack and Jill of America Foundation: The philanthropic arm of Jack and Jill of America, Inc.

Ifeoma White-Thorpe

Ifeoma was selected as a National Finalist in the Selma Speech & Essay Contest.Publication1

Ify is one of three (3) national finalists among nearly 800 entrants in the National Liberty Museum / Paramount Pictures Essay and Speech Contest conducted in conjunction with the film Selma. The contest topic is On Individual Freedom: My Rights, My Role, Our Liberty. If you agree that this sounds like a topic tailor-made for Ify, you are not alone, and clearly the judges think so, too!

Ify’s proud mother, MCJJ member Pat White-Thorpe said, “not only will Ify’s speech be a part of the exhibit at the National Liberty Museum in Philadelphia, PA, but Ify and her fellow finalists are also invited to attend the award ceremony on April 21st National Liberty Museum where the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners will be announced!”
The link to Ify’s PHENOMENAL, nationally-recognized speech, as well as those of the other two finalists, is below for your amazement and enjoyment.
